Mid Summers Eve European Tapestry
Mid Summers Eve is a Belgian jacquard wall tapestry. The original artwork was created in 1908 by Edward Robert Hughes, a Pre-Raphaelite. This turn-of-the-century art movement focused on the natural world. Looking beyond the foreground of the painting, there are lush rolling hills and trees. The darkness seems to settle in the background, really bringing out the fairies and girl; the human girl watches in eager interest as the fairies dance around the fire. She looks in, a spectator curious about these creatures’ actions.
